Massage Therapist Horror Story

I pulled into the private community. The gate guard immediately recognized me being a frequent visitor on my clients access list. Parking in the driveway as usual, I pull out my massage table then feel the pocket where I would have the sheets and other supplies including massage lotion.

Blank space.

I unzip the pocket to find that I failed to pack a sheet set and my travel bag with my lotion, speaker, etc.

Shit.

The client just messaged about the side gate open for me. I call, explaining my buffoonery. Though they offer their own bedsheets to use I still had no lubricant for their deep tissue massage. So I offer two alternatives: myofascial release or craniosacral therapy.

The client had a bad myofascial release experience with another therapist and I briefly explained craniosacral therapy which he thought would still be good for his aching neck and back.

“If you hate it I won’t charge you.”

At least I had alternative options to offer.

I was excited to introduce something new to my client to the point that I think I over-explained what the modality is. This also offered me a chance to put into practice skills I re-learned recently.

As usual with a majority of clients, he went into a state of deep rest, even snored. His craniosacral rhythm stopped and started. Muscles twitched and space opened up in his tissues.

After the whole thing was finished, he said, “I feel very relaxed.”

He went on to say his neck was much better and was now pain-free with extension. Lastly, he said he wanted to do this again.

I am so happy I am able to offer this powerful healing modality and also proud of myself for not resting on laurels and continually learning.
