Mobile Massage: Things to Consider

You may think that having a massage service in the comfort of your own home would be the perfect experience. You don’t have to worry about traffic, driving after the massage, or seeing other people. Here are some things you may want to take into consideration when booking a mobile massage or bodywork service.

  1. Are there going to be any distractions?

It’s your home (or hotel/rental) and there may be a number of distractions that can impede upon the massage experience. A Jehovah’s witness or UPS driver can come knocking on the door. A remodeling project could be underway next door. You have a new puppy or child that is in constant need of attention. Daily, we are confronted with numerous things that aim to distract our attention. Having a massage gives you the opportunity to check in with yourself, your body, your mental health, and offer insight into what you may have been neglecting or having troubles with.

  2. Do I have a good, open area for setup?

Most standard massage tables are 70” x 30”. The therapist would ideally have room to move all around the table to use good body mechanics to deliver the best session possible. Indoors offers better environmental control. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the living room or dining room or bedroom. As long as there is space and a tidy environment then it should work out fine.

  3. Can We do an outdoor massage?

This can be tricky. Doing an outdoor massage has the benefit of feeling more airy and connecting more with nature but there are a number of environmental considerations out of our control.

  4. Does the hotel I’m staying at allow outside, independent massage?

As I have learned, hotels with their own spa have their own business licenses and liabilities. They frown upon anything that competes with their business operations. This doesn’t mean it can’t be done, especially if the hotel has an open floor plan with multiple entrances away from watchful corporate eyes.

An in-home massage can be a nice experience. So can my office. I have had many compliments on the look and feel. It offers you a chance to change the environment and take time for just yourself if you’re traveling with family or friends.

My portable table is sturdy and serves me well. If you have a room in your home or rental that you think would work for massages, by all means give it a go! I’m happy changing up my own work environment, too.
