hobby vs job vs career
I live in a city that is pretty indulgent. Let’s just call a spade a spade and make it clear I live in a very gay city.
There are the guys that have no formal training in massage yet they “do” massage, be it sexual or not. I’ve met some that do massage, wait tables, and work the gym reception desk. Those are the types that I think of as treating massage as a hobby, doing the minimum to make a little money.
There are also the ones that work for other companies, like Massage Envy or hotel spas. I have worked at spas with other therapists, some with more time in the field, that have never taken one continuing education class since finishing massage school. I could tell in how they work, and those are the types that I think of as treating this as a job just to make a living.
Then there are those like me, striving for the highest output, learning as much along the way as possible. I’ve seen it, witnessed people on social media posting their work, consume the content they put out. Mostly they work independently. This is how I know they treat this as a career and look to be in this for longevity.
There is alway something new to learn even if it’s the same content but taught by a different person.
